CYRUS WEBB: "Elizabeth Chalker's inspiring book shows that with Faith anything is possible.
Dealing with any illness or difficult situation can either bring out the worst in us or the best in us. A great deal of it has to do with our attitude.
In her book HANGING ON BY THE SCRATCH MARKS MY NAILS LEFT BEHIND (Raw Faith) is not an easy road to take. Not because of the size of the book, but because of where you find yourself going.
You enter the world of Elizabeth L. Chalker, an individual who was full of life and promise and due to illness and symptoms that can destroy a person she has been able to not only find a reason to live, but allowed her path to show others how they can endure in spite of the challenges that they face.
Elizabeth's life is an example that when you feel like you can't go on realize that with faith you can deal with anything---and be a source of inspiration to others along the way.
Definitely a book that shows what faith can do for an individual and how we can be a source of strength to others, HANGING ON BY THE SCRATCH MARKS goes to the heart of what it means to believe." ~ Cyrus Webb "Conversations Book Club" TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE.
KEVIN ZIMMERMAN: "Elizabeth Chalker’s book Hanging On by the Scratch Marks My Nails Left Behind (Raw Faith) touched the core of my soul. Her story shares how she overcame adversity and the reader will be motivated to do so as well. Elizabeth brings us face to face with what we do not wish to confront and inspires us to know that life is worth living. The book raises us to unbelievable heights and takes us to her deep lows. Ultimately she shows us how to channel our energy on God’s love over allowing oneself to be consumed with grief. Writing this story was courageous. We are all blessed that she did."
The potential strength that God can have in each individual’s life is well shown by the book Hanging On, written by Elizabeth Chalker. I know, I have seen her in real life. She carries burdens that would have crushed those with less strength of conviction and strength.
Besides my faith and my love for my family I have a love for my profession which is to assist those with profound inflammatory illnesses that traps suffering patients in a body without killing them.
Though no one would ever know why she suffers each day without looking at her blood and test results her story of courage and conviction is a beacon of light for those whose faith is challenged by illness, chronic symptoms that never go away and disability.
I am not sure where Elizabeth found the physical strength to write this inspiring book but it says that God is part of all of us, at all times, in all ways.
PASTOR CHARLES CARRIN: "Elizabeth Chalker knows the reality of pain and the power of God. She has experienced both. As a writer, Elizabeth has profound educational credentials. As a young woman battling the disappointment of broken health, a cancelled engagement, and collapsed career, her book challenges us with truths we desperately need to hear. Without that challenge our understanding the drama of life will remain incomplete.
I am now in my 60th year of ordained ministry and can say without hesitation that Elizabeth Chalker is one of the top-ten people I most admire. Her courage, heroism, and freedom of criticism, is an example I wish the whole world could see. Hopefully, this book will help achieve that. Elizabeth has walked "through the valley of the shadow of death" and most of the time she has walked it alone. But, she kept walking and continues walking even to this day. In an especially dark part of the journey a new Friend stepped out of the shadows and said, "Let Me help you carry that cross." The two of them, journeying together, have not yet reached the end of the valley.
The end of the suffering in this life is not in sight. In the meantime, this special young woman continues to be part of the "light that shines in darkness". Read her book. You will see what I mean"

ALAN S: "Everyone who loves, who feels, who dreams needs to read this book. Although I have a child who has numerous neurological difficulties and multiple medical struggles, my eyes were opened by Elizabeth as to perspective, toughness, kindness, and what matters most.
I somehow wish I could meet her and tell her that her words are burned into my soul. As a principal of a High School I am going to be sure to include this book into our curriculum.
As emotional as it is to read I am better for reading it."
KENDREA: "Elizabeth is a remarkable woman, anyone who has the chance to speak with her or get to know her will be abudantly blessed. Her book about her true life story, Hanging On By The Scatch Marks My Nails Left Behind ( Raw Faith), is one of the most heartfelt wreching yet deeply inspiring books I have ever read. She speaks straight from her heart. About her life of more trials and challenges then most people will ever face in their entire life. Her spirit continues to shine brighter and brighter despite the fight for her life. She is absolutely beautiful inside and out. She is a woman we should all strife to be more like. She is a rare jewel in this world. Her love for Christ is absoutely breathtaking. She is definitely one of God's angels on this earth. I can also relate to her but not as extreme as her situation. But can deeply empathize with her about Chronic Lyme Disease, secondary diseases, that lead to major surgeries. Even though I have never walked through the fire she has. I know it is only because of her beautiful spirit and her amazing faith in Christ that she has been able to continue on this extremely difficult journey. Please keep her continuly in your prayer's. She prays and helps everyone she can even when she doesn't have an ounce of strength to do so. You will be very glad you purchased this book. I believe it helps anyone who reads it with their own life struggles, to focus in and realize what truly is important. I highly recommend this book to everyone. She has inspired me to carry on at times that I thought I know longer could. I love you Elizabeth and I will never stop praying or believing that all of your dreams will come true. GOD BLESS YOU SWEETHEART! All my love in Christ - Kendrea <3
LARRY B. GRAY: "Hanging on by the Scratch Marks My Nails Left Behind (Raw Faith)" by Elizabeth L. Chalker is an excellent book detailing the real life story of the author and her trials and troubles with Lyme disease. It is a story of faith and courage that far exceeds what the average person will every face or endure. It is the story of how Elizabeth kept her eyes on Jesus even during her darkest hours.
When reading the book you can feel the author's emotions, pains, sadness and joys coming through the pages. I found myself crying with the author and rejoicing in the triumph of her faith. This is a well written book that is easy to get into.
I highly recommend this book."
LISA M. BUSKE: "Elizabeth's book is powerful and will tear at your heart. She writes with raw, intense, and heart breaking honest emotion. I found myself having to stop and pray. I prayed for Elizabeth's health then thanked God for my own health. After the intense and honest sharing, Elizabeth's calm, hopeful, and compassion shine through. I found this to be an emotional roller coaster of life's ups and downs with Elizabeth's strong and devoted faith in God as her only strength.
"Though I have a limited view and lack severely even beginning to understand His ways; though my circumstances are seemingly pitch black with not even so much as a pin dot of light shining through as a result of the depths of travesty of circumstance; God's promises, His enduring/abiding love, His Word, His sovereignty, His faithfulness and mercy; more unfeigned and constant than the utter-hell-impact of the diseases, and all that goes along with them, affecting every area of my being and my life as a whole." Elizabeth Chalker
It is this type of faith and heart tugging that will keep you reading.
"In the fire I remain. He's here. Even when I do not trust Him, see Him, feel Him, or hear Him. Even when I do not like Him and cannot accept what He allows -- He abides with me still. He is with you in your fire. He is Love, therefore must exude love. Thereto, He does love us, all of us, all of the time. Even when we step out on our own, get ahead of Him, or do what we "feel" is best, He is here still. Like with Abraham, God will keep His promises to us. Moreover, no matter what mistakes we make or how unfaithful to Him we may be, He is faithful still. He has no choice if we are His." Elizabeth Chalker
I commend you Elizabeth. Your courage, willingness, and outlook are inspiring. May others seek the Lord like you and trust Him with all things. I pray this book brought healing to you and to others who before reading this book might have thought they were alone."
"Hi! I want you to know how much your book means to me! I can only read a few pages at a time, for every sentence says so much.
You truly, Jesus only, have a Master piece."
_______________________________________________________ GABRIEL CAMERON: "Elizabeth shares her tragic yet beautifully inspiring life story thus far, of how she went from a highly successful woman who seemingly had it all, to being bedridden with a disease (Lyme) that most doctors don't even take seriously. Part of what makes her story so inspiring is the fact that even through all her pain and strife, her soul is still set on inspiring others. Elizabeth's hope and perseverance are derived from her unwavering christian faith; through it all her faith is what carries her onward. As a reader, what makes her story more compelling personally is that she is able to communicate her faith in a way that is universal, thus transcending religion and delivering her messages and lessons from a place of higher awareness. As a highly spiritual but non-religious person, I find that the writings in this book are truly transcendent lessons in getting closer to God; regardless of what name(s) you choose to call your God(s) by. All in all, Elizabeth pushes aside the pain and gets to the Heart of Life with 'Hanging On'."
HELEN METAXAS RASER: "I am blown away by Elizabeth's book, just as I knew I would be, by Elizabeth's personal insight into human suffering at its worst ... her level of unwavering faith in the midst of a burning inferno ... and the incredible inspiration that keeps me going through my own trials.
It is absolutely mind boggling that Elizabeth was able to write this spiritual masterpiece while in the middle of such pain and torture. What would have taken most authors a few weeks or months to compose has been 10 years in the making for Elizabeth. It is so glaringly obvious that every word written is God-inspired and a true labor of love and faith. It is a collection of writings while in the midst of the burning inferno that has been Elizabeth's life during her 20-year battle with undiagnosed Late Stage Chronic Lyme Disease and Lyme-induced Endometriosis, that have ravaged her body, but not her spirit. Every word is God-inspired, heartfelt, and inspirational. One thing is certain: You will never be the same after reading it. By purchasing this book, you will enrich your life, while also helping to save Elizabeth’s life.
Elizabeth - you touch so many lives with the beauty, truth, and love inside of you. You are a true angel of God and my life is so much better with you in it. I love you!"
JULIE SMITH: "There isn't a page that I could just open up to and feel your honesty, your love for Jesus (even if it is a page with a cry for help) and feel His very presence as you pen your thoughts as you have been journeying along with Him. Your citizenship is in Heaven and the very beat and pulse of your obedience to Him is overwhelming. Your decision to hang on and write is so amazing that I really wish the whole world would open their eyes and be blessed by you and your writings. I am 61 and am learning things that you already know at such a young age. ... As I pray for you, tears stream down my face because I love you for standing tall even when you could hardly sit up. Your book gives so much hope and that precious hope that we have in Jesus."
DR. COREY CAMERON: "Anyone who can purchase Elizabeth's book, I want you to know that you will be much more blessed by what's written inside than the investment you make to purchase it. I am with Elizabeth more than anyone and know better than anyone, what she suffers every moment and her book blessed me, inspired, me, challenged me, convicted me, strengthened me, motivated me and left me filled with love. Please go to her website and get one for yourself, you will not regret it and you will not only bless yourself with this gift, you will be helping Elizabeth to get the medical help she needs to save her life. Blessings to all and thank you for your support."
LINDA HOWARD: "Just received the book and am reading it. So far I can say that while being in the deepest pit-Elizabeth still honors God with her gift of encouragement to others and retains her complete trust in GOD. Order a copy today and help yourself go deeper into your relationship with God while also helping Elizabeth. Blessings to you."
T. BARRICK:"Raw faith records a journey of faith, passion, pain, and perseverance. Elizabeth reminds the reader in every page to take time to experience the small miracles so often taken for granted. Pick up this book and be humbled, inspired, and enlightened."
YVONNE WRIGHT: "(Milton Keynes, United Kingdom) I read this book with a box of tissues beside me. The tears were not for Elizabeth who has written her story in real time. They were for me, as my sorry superficial life paled in the light of her life that revealed what living for the glory of God really means. How does one suffering from Lyme Disease causing, a slow death, causing non-stop pain and agony get the discipline, the determination and the courage to focus, not on the devastation taking place in her body, but brings that body under subjection and pens a stirring story about the greatest love of her life?
I have not stopped asking myself that question since I read this amazing book. It's not like any other book you will read. Indeed, Elizabeth is not the first person to go through excruciating pain and suffering. In most cases the stories end. This story does not end. Elizabeth, though she prays, no pleads with her Lord for healing and deliverance, has not been healed, nor been delivered, but her faith still holds on to the Christ of Calvary.
This is a remarkable book by a remarkable writer and deserves to be read by those who suffer as she does from chronic illness, but also by those whose lives are a romp in the park by comparison, if only to gain perspective. It is well written. I believe it should find its way to the ranks of best sellers. It would make an excellent documentary of courage, hope and inspiration."
JORJA DAVIS: "Elizabeth Chalker suffers from late stage lyme disease, probably fatal, offering nothing but a slow, agonizing death. Lyme disease is complicated and compounded by other serious health issues that have left her bedridden and mostly alone. In this roaring furnace where she experiences daily frustration, unbearable pain, and, like Job, unjustifiable suffering, she has found the way to walk with unbound faith and trust in God.
In her book, I was at first witness, but soon became her companion, experiencing through my own chronic pain such wonder at her passionate love and unquenchable thirst for God. I have lived eighteen years with chronic pain. At times, her cries to God for deliverance were so intense I had to stop reading.
The book had somehow become not only Chalker’s story, but mine, as well. I had to stand in awe like King Nebuchadnezzar, “It is my privilege to report to you the gracious miracles that the High God has done for me. His miracles are staggering, his wonders are surprising, His kingdom lasts and lasts, his sovereign rule goes on forever.” *
If you are hurting, crying out in anger or fear, or if you know someone who seems to be weighed down with their hurts and their needs, Hanging on by the Scratch Marks My Nails Left Behind has a place on your shelf beside C. S. Lewis’s The Problem of Pain and Philip Yancey’s Where Is God When It Hurts? It is a terrible, dark place that can only be lit by God's grace in all the ways it comes."

"Learning How to Praise God Even When You're Hanging On.
Where do I begin to describe this book? I'm not sure but I will say this. This book is a call from the heart. Of a woman who is a living Job who has gone through much, almost more than I think people should have to deal with, and she can still give God praise, honor and glory. I do not know if I would have had the same kind of faith that she has. What is is even more inspiring is that this is not a book written with a 'happy' ending as we would have expected. Ms. Chalker is still going through, still believing, still hoping and praising God through.
It is a book filled with words of wisdom, heart cries, and praises. Once you finish, you will not be disappointed. You will be helped."
FIVEGREIGHTKIDS: "This is an incredible story about an incredible women. Lizzy has been through hell and back with her battle for life through the trial of Lyme disease. Knowing the struggle Lizzy goes through each day and her desire to live to see a cure...makes reading this book even more profound! She is a wonderful, admirable, caring, godly woman, who is adored by everyone who comes to know her. This is a must read!"
NORMAN SCHLAACK: "I have a hard time believing that I could go through what Elizabeth is going through. She is courageous beyond words, and yet her faith keeps her going even though she does question it at times. How could you not? Even with the hell she is living every day, she has committed herself to her faith. I admire her for that. You will too after reading this motivating book. You will see things differently. It will make you review your life and will make you realize what is important. It will help you realize what you have today is a gift, and why they call it the present."
PHYLLIS HARDIN: "All through the ages philosophers and theologians have tried to understand the role of suffering in our world. Especially troublesome is the occurrence of undeserved suffering expressed in the thought, “Why do bad things happen to good people?”
In her book, Hanging On by the Scratch Marks My Nails Left Behind: Raw Faith, Elizabeth Chalker bypasses any philosophical discussion of suffering and instead lays bare her very personal and intimate experiences of unimaginable suffering. She opens a window through which the reader can catch a glimpse of what it is like to cling to God with raw, tenacious faith when all else is gone and to find that He is enough.
This book will bless you and inspire you on your own spiritual journey. Try it!"
ALICIA MCMILLIAN: "I couldn't put this book down, it was touching, and inspiring. A raw look into the struggle of a beautiful woman dealing with unbearable pain with all odds against her. Letting go, and letting God take over, her undying faith brings her to a place of peace and acceptance. I will never be the same after reading this book, it will inspire you to keep fighting the fight. God is truly Good. We love you, Elizabeth. ~Hugs~"
TAMMY HILDEBRAND: "Elizabeth Chalker is a beautiful soul who was put on earth soley to give Glory to God, inspire others and share the light with everyone. Elizabeth suffers with insurmountable physical pain and yet continues to lift up those around her. She shares her faith and her daily struggles with comforting words of what it takes to get through the trials and difficulties of life. This is a book that every single person could benefit from reading. Who doesn't need some inspiration to keep fighting the fight sometimes? You won't be sorry!"
ANGELA A. CASTLE: "This has to be the best book I've read! I highly recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with life's issues, it is full of hope, faith, and so inspiring! Very eye-opening, a great reminder of the many blessings we have in life even when we struggle with illness, finances, relationships, etc. This book will motivate you, help you build your faith, and inspire you in so many ways. Highly recommend!!"

MELISSA KOSHEN: "Powerful and amazing! This book is written from Elizabeth's heart and soul. As she conquers her daily struggles, her undying hope and conviction are inspirational and uplifting. She is a role model of faith and her words will have you embracing the life that was chosen for you."
LEIGH WILLIAMS: "Elizabeth, I am not yet totally finished with your book but I am close. I wanted to tell you how touched I am by your courage. You put so much of your deeply personal issues out there for everyone else to see and I think that is very admirable. I think the title RAW FAITH is exactly what you are showing to us.
I have already cried quite a few times because your writing takes me through my own personal connection with God. I share the Lyme with you and I would not wish it on anyone. Sometimes the medical system fails us and ignores us, and it is them that you need to hang on by your fingernails.
Jesus is with you Elizabeth and I know he will not let you suffer forever. Thank you for writing such a beautiful and honest book and sharing such a deep part of yourself with all of us.
For anyone who feels like they are losing hope, being ignored, feeling abandoned or alone, read this book. You will discover that courage and love is right at your fingertips. Love will lead the way, and please let there be a cure for Lyme disease. Bless you."
T. MERCIER: "Hanging On by the Scratch Marks is a must read!
This book (and Elizabeth's life) is a true inspiration for anyone going through any debilitating illness, whether it be you or someone you love. Her devotion and belief in God through all of her pain and suffering is nothing short of a living miracle and testimony. I highly recommend reading this book. It left me with a renewed sense of sympathy for those suffering around me, a greater appreciation for what I have been blessed with in my life (including good health), and a stronger faith in God."
JENNIFER NAVARA: "A MUST read!
This book is an amazing testimony of the life of Elizabeth Chalker and her heart wrenching journey through and with horrific, unimaginable health challenges and chronic illness. What amazes me is her constant, unwavering faith despite every single challenge and struggle handed to her. Elizabeth continues to be my true definition of strength, hope, persistence, perseverance, love and raw faith. I am blessed beyond words to call her my friend and have her bright shining light always guiding me in my difficult times. This book is a must read!"
SHAWN SHAFFER: "Even while struggling with her illness, Elizabeth remains an amazing women of faith! I recommend this book to anyone who is in search of some inspiration in life. It's a great read."
A PERSONAL NOTE FROM DR. COREY CAMERON: "It is hard to even explain what Elizabeth lives and even harder to explain how in the face of that, she is the most faithful, loving, devoted person I know. I don't know of anyone who lives what she is living. Though there are so many suffering, she is mostly alone. I am there when I can be, but it is just the two of us. With the loss of our very special boy, Symon, the emptiness is unspeakable. Yet she is still the beautiful, angelic, loving, faithful, devoted child of God as always.
When she writes, it is obviously God inspired. She often had to write on her computer, in her closet where it was the darkest, and type with her eyes closed because she couldn't stand the light of the computer even with sunglasses on. She is never without a migraine and severe pain. I don't know how she is even able to put a sentence together or why she even cares to. Yet no matter what, when I have a need, no matter what she is experiencing, no matter how deep the pain, she somehow pulls herself up by her bootstraps and supports me like no one I've ever known. And she does that for so many others, too.
Elizabeth is truly inspirational and unfortunately that is not enough to mobilize the help she needs. I have always said that I just don't understand this suffering in the darkness. If it were televised and the world could see what she suffers and know her strength and learn from it, then maybe there would be a purpose far greater than we can understand. But she suffers alone, in the dark, and she suffers more than I can tell you for the loss of her four-legged son, Symon, who was truly her son. She continues to live on in this lonely darkness, and keeps trying in spite of nothing showing up. She is pure love and all she wants to do is share that love, give to the world to make it a better place."
